How I became a game programmer:
I never really thought I'd be a programmer. Up until about the 11th grade I thought I'd be some sort of artist; however, I knew I wanted to be involved in games. When it came time to actually apply for schools, I planned on applying at the Art Institute for "Game Art Design". Funny thing is, when I was selecting which major to apply for I saw "Visual & Game Programming" in the list. I thought about it for a good while and realized I was better suited for programming.
Why programming? There are several reasons. First of all, I like to create art, but I hate doing it as a job. Secondly, I've always been pretty good at math. Lastly, I have strong problem solving skills. Although...the most important reason was that I wanted to know how to actually make a game, rather than just the art.

Education:
I am a graduate of the Art Institute of California - San Diego with a bachelors in visual & game programming. Video Games: I have been playing video games since I was 4, though I never got too invested in them until about the 4th grade. I love MMORPGs like FFXIV, strategy/tactical RPGs like Fire Emblem. Overall, I really enjoy the RPG genre. Hobbies: Besides playing video games, I was also in my middle and high school's top choir for a total of 6 years. I also enjoy drawing. I've taken several art classes in middle and high school and even spent $200 of my allowance on buying a Wacom drawing tablet in the 7th grade. I don't draw as much anymore, but I will occasionally. |
